Cooking Ingredients:

  • 100 gm or almost 1 cup of Wheat Flour.
  • 50 gm or almost 1/2 cup of Gram Flour.
  • 1 teaspoon of Salt.
  • 1 teaspoon of Turmeric Powder.
  • 1/4th teaspoon of desi Ghee aka. Indian Butter applied on every small piece of Roti.
  • 30-35 ml or 1/3rd cup of mildly warm water.

Tandoori Cooking Method:

Step:1. Mix 100 gm of Wheat flour with 50 gm of Gram flour in a dough kneading bowl. Also, add 1 teaspoon of Salt and 1 teaspoon of Turmeric powder to it. Mix all thoroughly with dry and clean hands. Remove the lumps present in the wheat flour.

Step:2. In a dough kneading bowl, gradually add some water to the mix of flours. Further, start kneading the flours with clean hands. Also, keep pressing it with hands, till it binds into a soft spongy ball.

Step:3. You may have some dough sticked to your hands. Just wash and clean your hands and then apply 1 teaspoon of desi ghee to the dough. And then with firm hands, knead it one last time. This step is important becuase

Step:4. Cover it and let it rest for 15-20 minutes. Further, use Rolling pin to roll it into round flat bread (Roti). Further, heat the gas stove tandoor on 300 to 400 degrees centigrade. And put the flat bread aka. roti onto it. I request you all, to be bit cautious, while handling the Gas Stove Tandoor. Further, the details of Gas stove tandoor are mentioned in a separate blog. Please refer the equipment details, before you all proceed to cook on Gas stove Tandoor.

Step:5. Apply lid of Gas Stove Tandoor and heat a side of Roti for <1 minutes. You may see some black bubbles on it, after it gets cooked. Further, hold it with tongs and change its side. Again, apply lid of Gas Stove Tandoor and let it grill on medium to high flame. You may find it ballooning as shown in the figure. I say, sometimes, if the proportion of water is not correct or if the dough is not spongy enough the ballooning may not happen. So, it is important to knead dough correct.

Step:6. Apply Ghee all over to a Roti. I suggest to you all, to not skip this step, in understanding that it may gain weight or increase Calorie intake. Further, from health perspective, Food combination of Turmeric, Gram Flour and Ghee is a healthy food combination. I continue, with 100 gm of Wheat flour you may be able to make around 5 pieces of small-size roti.

Step:7. Finally, serve Tandoori Missi Roti with Indian curry. I say, it is good to have 2-3 pieces of it in a meal.
